Enjoy a long season of effortless, bold color with the Chartreuse on the Loose Catmint. This Nepeta hybrid blooms during the summer and early fall. Tiny bell-shaped flowers in a bluish-lavender hue cover the upper portion of the tall flower spikes. The flowers bloom in clusters, creating the illusion of bigger flowers. This plant is a continuous bloomer that sets flowers throughout the growing season without being cut back.
The broad leaves narrow slightly at the rounded tip and have scalloped edges. The chartreuse foliage dots the lower part of the stems, creating a full and dense background that helps the blooms stand out. The organic form of this perennial is charming in a border or the front of a mixed bed where Catmint lends a meadow- or cottage-inspired vibe. Create a lovely mass planting, fill a container, and trim some stems to add to an arrangement. Broken or cut stems release a scent that attracts cats, so be mindful adding Catmint to a flower arrangement if you have cats. Grow the Chartreuse on the Loose Catmint in zones 3 through 8.
Chartreuse on the Loose Catmint Care
Plant in full sun and in average, moist, well-drained soil. New plants require consistent water for the first growing season, but established plants are drought tolerant and only need water during a dry spell. Catmint is not a heavy feeder, but you can support growth with a layer of organic compost around the root zone.
Chartreuse on the Loose Catmint continues to bloom without pruning but trim back leggy growth to encourage a bushy form. Trim all growth to ground level in the fall.
Chartreuse on the Loose Catmint Spacing
Chartreuse on the Loose Catmint reaches 8 to 10 inches tall and 20 to 24 inches wide. Space plants 20 to 24 inches apart to create a low hedge-like planting.
