Creeping Lilyturf is a flowering groundcover with a significant visual impact that can thrive in various conditions. This perennial also goes by Liriope spicata and features tall flower spikes covered in tiny lavender and white blooms. The flowers bloom during late summer and peak through the arching foliage. Long dark green leaves grow in tufts and look like an ornamental grass.

Plant creeping lilyturf in a bed or on an embankment for a stunning mass planting. This fast-growing plant can quickly overtake a space, so give it room to spread. Creeping lilyturf is hardy and adaptable; while it doesn’t like soggy conditions, it can live in damp soil. Use this plant along a streambed to control erosion or in areas with poor drainage. Grow creeping lilyturf in zones 4 through 8.

Creeping Lilyturf Care

Creeping lilyturf requires about one inch of water per week, and established plants are mostly drought tolerant. Drainage is vital because while this plant can handle a lot of moisture, it cannot tolerate standing water. Plant it in full to partial sun for best blooming. Lilyturf is not a heavy feeder, but applying a balanced fertilizer in the spring will support new growth.

Remove faded flowers or damaged foliage throughout the growing season to keep lilyturf looking tidy. Prune all spent growth to ground level in late winter or early spring to make way for new growth.

Creeping Lilyturf Spacing

Creeping Lilyturf grows 9 to 18 inches tall and 12 to 24 inches wide. This plant is a vigorous grower that spreads via rhizomes, so give it room to grow. Space plants 12 to 24 inches apart and plan to divide or thin the plants every few years.
