This ultra sweet hybrid cherry tomato originated in the South of France, and now you can grow it right in your backyard. A heavy producer, each plant can get up to 5 feet tall and produce 300 fruits, with 10-12 per cluster. Each one of these cherry-red tomatoes is about half an ounce and can be harvested from July to September. The fruits are small but firm, giving them a crunchy texture and a flavor that is the perfect mix of sweet and tart. This is an indeterminate tomato type.
Crockini Tomato Plant Care
You can start Crockini inside in late winter to late spring and plant it outside in late spring to early summer. Stake them as they grow to keep fruit off the ground and yield the best harvests. Cherry tomatoes have the same growing requirements as regular tomatoes. Give them at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. Choose soil that is slightly acidic, loose, and well drained. Regularly pruning your plant is important. Wait for the stems and leaves below the first set of flowers to turn yellow, then clip. Pruning helps in a number of ways, including increasing airflow, which reduces the growth of fungal spores; and hastening fruit ripening, as more tomato clusters will be exposed to sunlight.
Growing Crockini Tomato Plant
Plant Crockini outside in a sunny location in the late spring to early summer, and you’ll be enjoying your harvests in 60-65 days. This plant can get 5-6 feet tall at maturity, and you should offer it support with stakes or a tomato cage in order to keep fruit off the ground and increase productivity.
When growing in a container, choose a pot that is at least 5 gallons in size and make sure it has drainage holes. Use a well-draining potting soil.
