Like a ray of sunshine, the Golden Guinea Kerria provides a burst of color that will cause everyone to gravitate to its warm glow. Delicate butter-yellow flowers have five petals and are relatively large at 1.5 to 2 inches across. The prolific flowers of the Kerria japonica bloom in April and May against a background of deep green lance-shaped foliage with finely serrated edges that create a  feathery appearance.

Golden Guinea Kerria has an upright, spreading form. This deciduous shrub is easy to maintain and requires very little care. Use this beauty in a bed, border, mass planting, or any area with space and in need of bold color. Grow the Golden Guinea Kerria as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.

Golden Guinea Kerria Care

Golden Guinea Kerria prefers full to partial sun. The soil should have a pH of 5.5 to 8 and be moist but well-drained. New plants need deep, weekly watering. Give established plants one inch of water per week. Feed this shrub using a balanced fertilizer annually each spring.

Prune after the plant is done flowering to remove old growth, dead or damaged branches, and also remove suckers.

Golden Guinea Kerria Spacing

This spreading plant will grow 4 to 5 feet tall and 6 to 9 feet wide. Shrubs can be spaced 5 to 8 feet apart for a full and lush planting.
