Water deeply the first 1–2 years to establish, then during dry spells give a thorough soak when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry. Mulch 2–3 inches over the root zone, keeping mulch a few inches off the trunk. Feed in early spring with a light dose of slow-release, balanced tree and shrub fertilizer.
