Bring a taste of the tropics home with White Dragon Fruit. Architectural, three-ribbed stems climb a sturdy support and open massive, night-scented flowers that mature into crisp, mildly sweet fruit with snowy white flesh. It’s equal parts statement plant and productive edible.

Train it on a sunny pergola, a post-and-crossarm, or a large patio container you can shelter when nights cool down. In frost-free zones it fruits outdoors; elsewhere it overwinters indoors easily so you can keep the harvests coming.

White Dragon Fruit Care

Provide 6–8 or more hours of direct sun; in very hot interiors, a touch of afternoon shade helps prevent scorch. Use a sharply draining cactus or sandy mix, pH 6.0–7.0. Water deeply when the top 2–3 inches are dry, then let excess drain; ease up in cool weather and never allow the pot to sit in water.

Feed monthly from spring through early fall with a balanced cactus fertilizer, or use a slow-release formula at planting and again midseason. Select 3–5 main leaders and tie them to a strong post or trellis; tip-prune to encourage a cascading crown and remove weak or tangled shoots after fruiting.

Flowers open at night and may set better with hand pollination; cross-pollination often increases yield and size. Hardy outdoors in USDA zones 10–11; move containers indoors before temperatures drop below 50°F.

White Dragon Fruit Spacing

For a single plant, allow 6–8 feet for canopy spread and easy access. On posts, space supports 8–10 feet apart with 3–4 feet between plants sharing a structure. Keep 1–2 feet away from walls or paths.

In containers, choose a 15–20 inch wide pot at least 18–24 inches deep with generous drainage, and install a strong post with a crossarm or rigid trellis; place in full sun with good airflow and rotate monthly for even growth.

Why Grow White Dragon Fruit?

  • Spectacular night blooms followed by refreshing, white-fleshed fruit
  • Climbing habit that trains cleanly on posts, trellises, or pergolas
  • Reliable in warm climates and container-friendly elsewhere
  • Low water needs in fast-draining media once established
