White Guardian Larkspur, also known as Delphinium ‘Guardian White’, is a sturdy, stately plant that bursts into a profusion of white blooms ahead of other varieties. These delicate-looking beauties have a high tolerance for tough garden conditions and will stay upright due to sturdy flowering stems.
White Guardian Larkspur blooms in late May through early July, depending on your growing zone. White Guardian reaches up to 40 inches tall with a 2-3 ft spread. The foliage is dark green and lance-shaped, setting off the pure white, double flowers. The blooms form on tall, sturdy stems and are sure to draw your attention upward. It is a fabulous choice for adding height and texture to the garden. White Guardian Larkspur makes an excellent cut flower in arrangements, is deer resistant and drought tolerant, and attracts bees and other beneficial pollinators.
White Guardian Larkspur Care
Provide at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily; full sun is important for blooming and balanced growth, although White Guardian will handle some shade. Keep these tall perennials protected from harsh winds in open areas; they may need staking for protection against a strong rainstorm or wind. Maintain slightly moist, but not soggy soil; Larkspur will not tolerate periods of drought. The soil should be well draining, enriched with plenty of organic compost or composted manure, with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Fertilize once a month using a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer.
You can remove the spent flower spike to keep your plant looking its best throughout the growing season. In fall, cut back all faded flowers and foliage to nearly the base of the plant, leaving a few inches of basal foliage to protect the roots during the winter.
White Guardian Larkspur Spacing
Lovely used in a border, massed in groups, or as a specimen, White Guardian will need ample space surrounding each plant. Space plants approximately 3 feet apart to accommodate the mature width.
